The State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic has prepared a series of documentary and educational films on the protection of livestock and property from large carnivores, as well as on the correct application of various types of preventive measures and on the rules of behaviour in nature.
All the films were prepared by Michaela Skuban, a SNC SR zoologist and large carnivores expert. In addition to creating the script and screenplay, Michaela Skuban also co-directed the films. Acting as an expert supervisor in this original film project was SNC SR zoologist Slavomír Finďo.
The educational series was launched on the International Day of Forests. Therefore, the first film screened to the public was an educational documentary entitled How to behave in a forest with brown bears. You can watch the film: at this link.
The ways of securing human property against large carnivores and the proper use and installation of electronic scaring devices are the topic of the second of the films, entitled Devices for protection against wild beasts. The film can be viewed here at this link.
The third documentary depicts how to properly install an electric fence against bears and how to protect bees. The film is available on the SNC SR’s social networks, and you can watch it here: at this link.
The last two films of the series focus, respectively, on the topic of damage to agricultural crops caused by large carnivores and on issues related to the protection of livestock by guard dogs. The films can be viewed at the following links.
Production of the educational series was financially supported from the Operational Programme Quality of Environment within the project entitled Implementation of Large Carnivore Management Programmes in Slovakia.
