The intervention team for brown bears of the Slovak Nature Conservancy (Intervention Team) is currently patrolling the village of Kľačno daily. Until this morning, our
colleagues were scaring away bears approaching the village. The main reason why bears get into the intravillan of the village is the maturing of fruit on trees, especially the apples.
At the beginning of June of this year, an intervention group was removing a problem bear near the village of Kľačno, which was threatening the inhabitants of the local farm with its behavior and causing damage to their farm animals.
Each locality with the presence of a brown bear needs to set up an individual solution. In necessary cases, problem individuals can be removed, but at the same time it is important to take all necessary preventive measures. In the case of the village of Kľačno, we recommend, in addition to the proper securing of waste containers, the securing of farm animals and fruit trees with a sufficiently strong electric fence. There are also several unkempt orchards in the vicinity, which would need to be mowed, properly fenced and collected.
These days, we therefore ask the local residents to be more careful in this location, at the same time we note that the Intervention Team is monitoring the situation and considering the next course of action.
